Join me on November 10, 2010 starting at 6:30pm to make your Holiday cards. I have four fun designs that you will make and you will make three of each design.

Pre-registration is required so that I can have your cards prepared for you.

Classes and Clubs are starting this September!!

This September I am starting Hostess Clubs and classes for adults and children. All clubs and classes will be at Trinity United Church, 76 Doulton St., London ON in the Junior Hall.

The Just 4 Kidz classes will be children ages 8 years and over. There is a limit of 15 children per class so please register early to guarantee your child's place.

If you have older youth or know some older youth who would like to do crafting once a month, don't hesitate to contact me and classes can be arranged.

Hostess Club SEP 15 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Come join our Hostess Club! This is a chance to get Stampin' Up! products in a budgeted method and have some fun! We'll make 2 -3 projects at each monthly gathering. If we have 6 members each person will commit to placing a minimum $35 (plus shipping & taxes) order each month and if there are 8 members then it will be a minimum $25 (plus shipping & taxes) order. Follow up on Spring Fever Event

It was a marvelous evening arranged by my Upline Alesha and we all had fun! It was great to meet some new people and craft together.

I was demonstrating making tiles and I always have fun making those.

Spring Fever Stampin Event

7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

The Spring Fever Stampin Event:

At this event there will be several demonstrators doing live demonstrations for you on techniques, projects and more! You will rotate every 10 minutes and see all new projects being created right in front of you - you will get instructions on how to make these and can photograph them as well. You will learn how to make a minimum of 7 amazing projects that will WOW you!

In addition to the presentations there will be make-and-takes! We will be making 8 beautiful cards with you - these will be fabulous cards using all Stampin' Up supplies. You will make 4 different cards (2 of each). This will occur after the Demonstrator Presentations.

Next we will have draws for Door prizes - and also raffles too!
You don't want to miss the amazing products that we'll be giving away. Oh and the SAMPLES!! - massive amounts of cards, scrapbook and 3D samples for you to see! Bring your camera and feel free to take some photos.

Please note that this a fundraiser for the St. John Ambulance London Search and Rescue team. $5 from each ticket sold will be donated to the LSAR team.

On Saturday December 12, 2009 I will be offering two classes Just 4 Kidz. Children will be making Thank You cards. This is for children from 8 years old to 13 years old.

They will make 10 cards - 5 each of 2 designs.

This will take place at Westmount Branch Library in Room C.

Cost: $10/per child.

The first session will be 9:30 - 11:00 and the second session will be 11:15 - 12:45.

A Fantastic Afternoon!

I was at the Westmount Library and had a great time! I had a lot of families and children in making cards for our Troops. They all created such awesome cards!!

I was absolutely thrilled with the creativity I saw and how imaginative everyone was.

The staff at Westmount were absolutely fabulous and made it even more enjoyable! Thank you so much and I hope to do more there!

I will try and scan a sampling of the cards made today and post them soon as I think everyone should see how super the cards are.

I enjoyed meeting everyone and look forward to getting some Just 4 Kidz and Teen classes going very soon!

A couple others from the Fair

Here are a couple other cards I made while at the Fair. It was a lot of fun having others come and join me! What was created was just amazing!

I really enjoy colouring my images and playing with the inks in different ways.

This one was watercoloured using a dry brush and ink spots. I sponged Old Olive on the edges. The blue colour was a bit of residue that transferred from the other side of the sponge to my fingers and to the card... so I'm not sure which blue it was but at least it balanced!

For this card I stamped the middle of the image with the Creamy Caramel ink spot and then stamped the edges with the Chocolate Chip ink spot. I really like the ink spots as I can do multi-colours without a lot of fuss.

Just 4 Kidz

These are special classes for children who are between the ages of 8 and 12 years old*. The children will make cards based on a different theme each month. Techniques used will be geared to the abilities of the children and they will only need to bring safety scissors.

Each class will be one and a half hour long and limited to 15 children per class. The limits are just to ensure that all children will have enough time to finish their projects. These classes will be available at more than one time if there are enough children interested.

Classes can also be arranged by special request such as for a birthday party activity or special group activity.

Pre-registration is preferred so that I can ensure I have enough materials ordered and prepared for all the children.

Unless there are special circumstances, the children do not require parental supervision during class.

Build-A-Bear

$10.00 per child
Each child will make one stamped card and one die cut bear with up to three different costumes.

Card Organizer
$10.00 per child

Create a special organizer to store the cards you will be making each month.

Terrific Tiles Class

Come join me and make a set of stamped tiles that can be used as coasters or decorative pieces.

These are great gift ideas and fun to make!

You will be able to select from an assortment of stamp sets to decorate your tiles and we using a watercolour technique to colour the tiles.

As part of the creation process involves some time for the tiles to bake, we will also be creating a stamped candle that co-ordinates with your tile set or you can use different images for the candle.

Once 15 people have registered and paid you will be notified of the exact date and time of this class.

Location: I have locations in the East End and in the West End.

Stampin’ UP!© and Build-A-Bear Workshop have teamed up and created an exclusive collection of stamps and Sizzix dies.

At this event, we will be making a variety of projects using this exclusive collection of stamps and Sizzix dies. Projects will include any occasion items and holiday themed items.

Upcoming Stamp Camps

I am pleased to share that I will be doing monthly Stamp Camps.

I will have Stamp Camps that are just for Teens (ages 13 - 18) and Adult Only Stamp Camps. The Teen Stamp Camps will be in the morning and Adult Stamp Camps can be in the afternoon or evening if that works best for you.

Please email me if you are interested in attending a Stamp Camp and whether you would be interested in attending the location at the East End or the West End. Please also let me know what time is best for you. Most Stamp Camps will be on Saturdays, but alternatives can be arranged.

~ 2 Hours once a month – drop in anytime during the 2 hours – allow at least 1.5 hours
~ You will learn new techniques – dry and heat embossing, watercolouring, faux finishes and more.
~ You will use a variety of tools – heat gun, Big Shot, Punches, Marvellous Markers and more.

At a stamp camp, you will be making cards, or creating scrapbook pages, or making 3-D projects. You will make between 10 and 12 cards or a scrapbook layout or a 3-D projects. Card designs will use a variety of techniques. All materials and tools are provided with the exception of double-sided tape.

Cost: $20 per person per camp.

The tile project ... finally!

okay I got a bit busy doing some of my real job stuffs and did completely forget to post the finished tile project that I made for my sis-in-law's birthday.

These are the glossy finished tiles, I got a huge bundle at the Habitat Re-Store for $5.00 and thought they would be fun to experiment with.

I used Stazon Jet Black ink to stamp the images. The ballerina is from Serendipitystamps.com, I found it locally and as soon as I'd seen it knew it would be used to make something for my sis-in-law. The stamp in the middle tile is from The Stamp Barn. I can't remember who made the ballet slippers and forgot to write it down. I will try and find out though.

I coloured all the images with Twinkling H20's and they dried very well on the tiles.

I just realized at this point, when I took these pictures, that I hadn't coloured in the centre tile! I used pinks and purples for the dress and each of the ballet slippers were the same colours as the outer tiles. I'll have to get a picture from my sis-in-law of the fully coloured tiles!

The tiles were all mounted onto vinyl floor covering and then we cut an extra piece and I used my Crop-a-dile to attach a grommet for hanging.

I like the way it turned out and have plans to play with some alcohol inks on the tiles and see what I can come up with.

here are some of my (and hubby's) latest work.

the Tilda I just received and oh so much fun to colour! the patterned papers are from different paper pads that I've somehow accumulated and I just liked the bright combination. Tilda was coloured with Copics ... yup they are really nice to use and do require a bit of a different method but I do like the results!

Many of the things I work on he helps with the logistics of how to put things together or just whether or not something looks right or not. It is so cool to see how he is getting into making his own creations!

I do have another project that I was working on for a bit that I will post tomorrow and it was something I made for my sis-in-law for her birthday and I have the cards I made for my hubby for his birthday. He and his sis have their birthdays 3 days apart and a year or two in between.

Went to a Class

Last night I went to a card making class at The Rubber Room that was being taught by my friend Diane. What made going even better and more fun was that my hubby came with me and we both made a card! He is really fantastic at colouring and this was his first time ever!!! I am so impressed and it was such a great time! We are even going to go back for more classes!!

Here are the two cards we made and I'll let you try and figure out who made which card... our boys couldn't figure out who made which....

The image is from High Hopes and so much fun to colour. We used TomBows to watercoloured them.

On another note, I've gotten bit by the Copic bug and now have some. I've been practicing on some larger images just to get a feel for blending and how to use them and so far it's going well. I do need some more colours (who doesn't?) and perhaps (who am I kidding... of course I'll get more)over time will get some more.

Something to Brag About....

Last night I had the great pleasure of seeing our eldest son receive his Chief Scout Award last night. This is the highest award at the Scout level that can be accomplished. It was hard work and he did very well!

Poor fella was so nervous!! This was just the in troop presentation of the crest (which he's already sewn on his shirt - yes he sewed!) and in May we have another presentation ceremony to attend and then a rather big one in June in Sarnia.

I've been playing with some digital stamp images lately and if you have a good quality printer (I have a laser printer) the results are very nice! One nice advantage to digital images is you can re-size them, change the orientation and if you are really good with your photo editing software you can create scenes with the images.

High Hopes Challenge #24 - Creative Borders

Here's a card I made yesterday for High Hopes Challenge 24 - Creative Borders.

I really like the Swiss Cheese punch and thought it would be fun to colour in the holes with the Signo pen and then outline the holes as well. This way the pattern continues on the inside but isn't punched. I totally lucked out with the patterned paper and decided to tear the edges on all four sides. Farmer Clem and the bale of hay are on pop dots, the bale of hay is actually two images mounted on each other just 'cause I wanted to see how it would look.

Of course I have to use my Stardust marker and did up the pitch fork tines and buckles on Farmer Clem.

Here's a card I've made for the latest High Hopes challenge. The challenge was to use buttons.

I actually started with the pink paper and had stitched around the edge, I've got my marvelous sewing beastie and hadn't yet used it on a card.

I'd finished up the card and thought it was missing a little something and after seeing what this week's challenge was I knew it could use a few buttons!

I love colouring the High Hopes stamps and this one was fun especially making the tractor a different colour.

During one the crazy stamping sessions with my friend Diane I was able to stamp this image from her collection. I coloured it up a few days ago and had to ponder the colour combination I wanted and of course didn't have the right shades I had in mind and so went and picked those up this morning.

The card measures 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 and opens to the side. I wanted to do something a little different. Right now there is no sentiment on the outside or inside - not sure what I want it to say or I just may leave it blank. I used Diamond Glaze by Judikens on the jar after colouring it with the pale blue. I think it makes the jar look more real. The fireflies did have glitter added but that never seems to show up well in my scans.

Yesterday while working on some cards for a swap, I was also visiting some blogs that I'd received links to from some email lists I'm on and others were just a result of following links from the blogs. That is so much fun but boy can you lose track of time quickly!

So I ended up at this blog Scrapnextras and just love the way the cards that Laura has created. One in particular caught my eye and I just had to try it.

I also followed the link to Taylored Expressions where the original sketch was.

Here's my attempt:

The stamp set is Lexicon of Leaves by Stampin' UP!, papers are Really Rust and Old Olive - Stampin' UP!, Ink is Noel rainbow pad by Adirondack. I scored lines at the top and bottom with my ScorPal and made the tag using the Curly Lable punch from Stampin' UP!

My boys all thought it was pretty cool so I guess that is alright! I'm going through my other stamps to see what other images would work well for this kind of layout. I'm also considering using other shapes or placements too... Have to see what I come up with.

i can only take credit for the colouring ;)

hedgie in pot

i went for a very simple approach using rub-ons for detail. I did layer the flowers, ladybug and flower pot though. And of course the Gelly roll pen was used. I love that pen!!

pink and red hearts on green

the green card is scored on the diagonal which doesn't show up too clearly and then the hearts and end cutouts are cuttlebug dies. i run the card stock through my Xyron first and then die cut it. much easier to stick in place i've found.

eternity card

these are vellum stickers on kraft card stock and i really like how it turned out. it also has scoring to frame the sentiment and the corners are scored as well.

ah another product of the crazy stamp night and i think this stamp goes on my wish list! i played with patterned papers and colour combos on this one. mr bear was stamped on photo paper so he's very bright and the colouring result is kind of cool.

hedgie and flower umbrella

uh-huh another hedgie! again i played with papers and colours.

this one was fun to colour although i was a bit nervous trying to colour the truck black - hubbie's truck is black so got to go with it! I used my nestie labels and i like the pink and green together. i edged the labels with a gold metallic marker. the card actually stands and the back bottom edge folds forward like a little ledge.

heart card

this is pretty much a very different card... i had the heart cut out from my project for Valentine's Day. It is a piece of vinyl wall covering. I backed it with the green and then the darker red cardstock. the blue heart opens for the rest of the message. i did faux stitching around the edge of the vinyl heart.

Argyle cuttlebug folder with the leafy branch folder over top. I chalked the leafy branch just to add a bit of colour.

hearts and roses

The roses here are from Penny Wesenauer

the heart is wooden and i picked it up at the dollar store. i painted it metallic pink and then put crackle medium on it and then white over top. i like the distressed/antique look. i have to work on my glitter skills... got a bit heavy handed on the yellow rose :0 the outer heart is from the vinyl wallcovering that i used for the heart card earlier.

well that's what i've been up to! i have some more things to play with. i found some white glazed tiles at the Habitat store and have some plans for them.

I'll break this up into a couple posts as there are a lot of images. I make my hubbie a special card beginning on Feb 1 and the last one of course is Feb 14.

This month is also busy with a couple birthdays as well. Our youngest had the infamous Friday the 13th this year for his birthday ... he's 6 now and I can't believe how quickly time has gone! He's my little (for awhile he's littler than me still) crafting buddy and we got him a Cuttlekid, dies and binder plus some alpha stamps and his own card stock! I'm going to experiment with making him some embossing folders and see how that works out for him.

On to the cards now - I like using all different materials and techniques and shapes and sizes - absolutely no rhyme or reason just whatever strikes my fancy.

dream card

The floral images use crayone resist technique and the green background was embossed with the Swiss Dots folder. The grommets actually came from Canadian Tire of all places!

hedgie and heart bubbles

i love my hedgies! this image was one from a crazy stamp night with my friend Diane. We stamped for pretty close to 6 hours! i still want this stamp though! the frame is a sticker and i drew the hearts at the top and bottom.

She has some gorgeous images to work with and papers that go with the images as well. I used my clear glittery Gelly Roll pen to add a bit of shine, which doesn't show up in the photo of course. I used my oval nesties for the top two pieces.

another image from the crazy stamping night and i cuttlebugged the background with the hearts folder. the background piece is actually a piece of wood wall covering and i anchored it with heart brads.

hedgie and heart

another sweet hedgie!! this one i have and use quite a bit. I used nesties for the ovals and then drew more hearts and handwrote the sentiment.

Playing with tiles again

I had so much fun working on the fairy tiles that while out shopping at Value Village the other night I found a bundle of these glossy tiles. I thought it would be fun to play with them and see what happens.

I used Stazon Jet Black ink to stamp the image from the Gina K set "friendship blooms". I used my heat gun to set the ink, not sure if I really needed to but figured it couldn't hurt.

Markers didn't work at all and so I decided to use my Twinkling H20's. It is actually brighter and more glittery than my scan shows. My scanner just doesn't seem to scan glittery things very well, I'll have to play with the settings a bit and see if I can adjust them better.

I'm going to play with some other stamp sets and I think these tiles would make neat decorations.

okay so we all probably really like getting gift cards at Christmas. I just used ones yesterday. I have an old (way old) Kenmore sewing machine that I bought about 19 years ago at a yard sale. It held up well and I was able to make the things I needed although the past couple years it was getting harder to work with and it wasn't behaving the very nicely. Hubby also likes to sew things and has sewn some awesome items over the years so when thinking about a replacement I wanted to make sure it would be useful for both us.

I'd always used a Kenmore but wasn't in the mood to go out to where the only place that sells that brand is. I did see in another store's flyer that they had Singers on sale but was leery of them... very bad experience on a sewing course with them many many years ago!

I ended up with this machine or beastie as I call it -

Now it doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles... but we don't need those. It does sew beautifully on paper though so I'll be looking to incorporate more sewing on my cards and layouts now.

I was also able to feed my other addiction with a Chapters gift card and got a nice selection of crafting/card making books and of course I had to order a DVD as well.... Queen videos..... yup I'm a Queen fan...... and if you do like Queen give a listen to their latest CD the cosmos rocks. It is great and you won't be sorry!

my neverending organizing is slowly making better progress and i can see the floor again!

Wishes for a Happy New Year!

Well it's 2009 and I hope everyone has a wonderful and crafty year!

I did well...quite well at Christmas and probably quite spoiled. My wonderful hubby got me some retired Stampin' Up! sets that I had seen at a Craft Show. I was surprised and very happy that he got them for me. It is so nice to have a hubby that is supportive and likes to see what I create.

I also got some gift cards, Chapters - used online and books are on the way. It was hard deciding between DVDs (I like my older tv shows) but went with books as one series that I need the final season for is currently unavailable...

I also got a Staples gift card and yesterday was out in the south end and just happened to go past the Staples (my van just drove into the lot ... honest!) and found some items that were marked down and then had an additional 50% off! One item is a catalogue holder.

I've wanted one for quite some time and just couldn't see paying the regular price (roughly $100 with taxes) and so to get it for $30 was just a bargain I couldn't say no to. I also got some oil pastels and those plastic cubes with x's in them for my markers. I'd been using a wine bottle holder with metal cups in it but it was eating a lot of real estate. I love the cubes and just need to find some more now.

I've already filled the catalogue holder, didn't take long but emptied four binders that were being kept under my desk. I've got all my brass stencils, plastic stencils and stickers and other embellishments in it. As I use up the embellishments I think I'll move some of my stamps to the holder.

I'm slowly getting things more organized and things situated to make for better work flows and keep things in sight so that I use them.

Well off to tidy more stuff up.... there is a floor somewhere down here I swear!

New stamps and some gift tags

I just got some Pink Cat Studio stamp sets this week and of course had to do something with them. This first item is from the Q.T. Hooty set and I'm going to make gift tags with them. I cut them using a scalloped circle Nestability in my Cuttlebug. The image was stamped on glossy photo paper and then coloured with TomBow markers. I like how bright they turned out. I've got a bunch more to do of Q.T and I'm also going to use some of the Lily and Billy stamps to make tags as well.

I also spent time today making some stamped coasters with tumbled tiles for a Christmas present for my sis-in-law. The top stamp is Flower Faries - #90027 Willow Flower Fairy by Stamps Happens Inc. and the second image is Flower Faries - #90021 Lavender Flower Fairy.

I used Bottocino tumbled tiles from Home Depot. I cleaned the tiles, stamped the image with Archival Ink (Ranger) and had to set them at an angle for them to fit the tile (the stamps are nice and big). I then baked them at 375 for 10 - 15 mins and after they'd cooled down I coloured them with my TomBows and also used the glittery Gelly Roll pen on the wings and butterflies. I then baked the tiles again at 375 for 10 - 15 minutes and once cooled I sprayed them with acrylic sealer.

I just have to figure out how to wrap them now!!

Finding Inspiration in Everyday Things

I've found that lately I tend to look at everyday things more closely now with an eye to how it could become a card, scrapbook page or other item. I'm paying much more attention to colour combinations and patterns.

With that in mind, I recently got a new pair of slippers, I actually walked around the store with about 4 different pairs in my cart trying to decide which I liked best. These are the ones and I think it was the colour combination and the wintery feel to them that made me pick them. I've also got a few things that I should be posting in the next day or so that resulted from these slippers.

I know I was supposed to post more about Fluffy and how we came to adopt her. Things got busy over the weekend.

We were helping to get things set up for a Haunted Range at the Sportsman Club that my hubby is a member of on Wednesday last week. Inside the clubhouse was a tiny white kitten, we soon learned that it was likely she'd been "dropped" off at a house of another member and they took care of her the best they could. Their son is allergic to cats and so they couldn't bring her in to the house. Well of all the nights for her to decide to hitch a ride in their truck it was Wednesday... maybe she knew we'd be there?

Another really really weird aspect to our newest family member is that she was born in June. I took her to the vet for shots and a checkup and the vet was able to guess-estimate her age based on her teeth development and figures she was born in June. As I had posted back in June we lost our greyhound.... he was a June bug too!!

Now really how weird and coincidental is that??

So we really feel that we were meant to have Fluffy become part of our family.

This little sweetie just joined our family last night, I'm going to get better pictures of her over the next couple days.

Her name is Fluffy, our youngest has claimed her as his and named her. She's pure white, and probably about 4 months old. She also has two different coloured eyes and is deaf.

She has a story but I'll save that for tomorrow as I have to head out shortly to help decorate a "haunted range".....

Busy, Busy...

The past couple weeks have been busy, getting back into the flow of schooling with the boys and Scouting starting up again. I'm also a Beaver Leader and totally trashed my office looking for my leader manual which is still MIA but at least I'm getting things better organized as I go hunting for it. I have that weird feeling it's right out in the open and if inanimate objects could laugh it would be laughing at me.

For the set of cards I last posted I made up a little bag borrowing the basic idea from a smaller gift bag which had been demoed at the Stampin' Up meeting I attended in August. I needed to make the dimensions larger as the cards were a bit on the bigger side.

So here's two shots of how the bag turned out, I used the Groovy Guava patterned paper for it.

I've got a few other cards I've been working on for some swaps that I'll be posting shortly and some great cards I've received in swaps as well.

Serene Spring Note Card Set

I made this set of 24 cards as a gift for a friend. I just have to make up a bag or box to place them in. They are 4 1/4 by 5 1/2.

All the images were stamped with Jet Black Ranger Archival Ink on 140 lb cold pressed watercolour paper and wow does it paint so nicely!

The ovals and rectangles are Nestabilities cut and embossed in my Cuttlebug.

The first two were coloured with an aquapainter and my assorted markers. I coloured on a piece of plastic and used the aquapainter to draw up the ink that way. I did add a little bit of highlights with the Stardust Gelly Roll pen. The highlights don't show up after being scanned. I highlighted the light parts of the flower pot, the flowers, the butterfly, the beak and chest of the bird.

These two I used blender pens and my Stampin' Pastels. I sure wish I'd had those back in art class! I did apply a sealant over top after colouring in. I did use the Stardust Gelly pen again, this time on the flower, the bird's wing and tail, and the light parts of the basket.

The first card didn't scan well and isn't actually crooked.

I was playing with some Ranger Alcohol inks making some pages to use with my cards and trying to work out what I would do for this particular birthday card. Playing with the alcohol inks is really a lot of fun!

I'd made up four sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper with different ink combinations when I decided I really really liked this particular combination. It has I had already picked the card stock I wanted. I scored and folded it to 5 1/2 by 8. I used the ticket corner punch on the open sides.

Then stamped the Gina K stamps onto the alcohol inked background and then cut out the three flowers. I cut three scalloped circles just a bit larger than the flowers, punched the middles of both and added the gold grommets. I then outlined the scallops with the metallic gold gelly pen and also added lines down from the scallops (not quite visible in the scan).

I took a small piece of the pattern paper I'd made and mounted it on a slightly larger piece of Blue Bayou, used the ticket corner punch then after attaching to the card front outlined all the edges in metallic gold.

I used the Sizzlet and made the little tag with Happy Birthday on it and rather than punch out the words, I left them attached and coloured them in with the metallic gold marker. I thought keeping them on the square and attaching it this way balanced the flowers at the top a little more.

I didn't scan the inside but used the birthday cake and present Sizzlets from the same set. I did punch them out and again outlined with the metalic gold jelly roll pen.

This card was for someone very special to me and for a special birthday - Happy 70th Auntie Madeleine!!

I have known her all my life and her children and my family all grew up together and we've stayed in touch over the years. Her children had organized a surprise birthday party and it was great! I just wish we'd had more time to stay and visit. It was so great seeing everyone and all their children.

Along with this card I made, I'm also finishing up a set of notecards. I changed my mind mid-stream on what I was doing with them and didn't have them all done by the party on Saturday.

It WAS This Big!!!

Well we went camping for the first time as a family last week and it was GREAT!! Our middle son has been very keen to go fishing and of course wanted to catch something. He did get his wish! Although it was the second day we went fishing. He'd actually built himself a fishing pole (rather similar to a fly-fishing rig) and it worked! Hubby caught the first fish which was a small yellow perch.

Then came the BIG catch. It's a bass - we think it's a small mouthed bass but not totally sure.

Then our eldest caught a fish! It's a pumpkin fish or pumpkinseed fish - I can't remember the proper name!

Our youngest and myself caught weeds... lots of them! Oh well maybe next time!

Oops forgot to mention we were camping at a Conservation Area and so the fish were just catch and release. I really think the boys enjoyed knowing the fish were going to live happily back in the water. All three have gentle souls and were quite happy to see the fish swim away.

Sympathy Card

This card was for the wife of a man who was very special to my husband and I. My husband first met Vic when he (hubby) joined the 59 Legion Highland Cadet Corps (Essex & Kent Scottish Regiment) and enjoyed a wonderful friendship with him. So much so that he asked that we have Vic as our Master of Ceremony for our wedding. I thought that was a great idea as I too had a connection to Vic outside of having known him through my husband - I had taken a Hunter Safety Course in 1986 or early 1987 (can't remember!) and Vic was my instructor. Our youngest son bears Vic's name as one of his middle names as that was our way to honour him.

When I first saw this Stampin' Up! set and a card made with it in Scrap & Stamp - Just Cards Vol. 10 p. 114 by Jodi LeVesseur; I knew that I wanted it. So yup I did get it when I ordered my Starter Kit. When I found out earlier this week that Vic passed away I knew this was what I would use for a card. I've made some slight changes, the sentiment and the colours for that I used for the background. I have quite a few different attempts as I tried to get the right combinations that I was finally happy with.

JEWISS, Victor C. D.,K. H. -Victor Jewiss, a life long resident of Chatham, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at Riverview Gardens on July 17, 2008 at the age of 83. Loving husband of 63 years to Beverly (nee Weaver). Dear father to Elizabeth and Donald Steele of McKinney, Texas, Catherine and Arnie Rush of Prince George B. C., Paul and Janice Jewiss of Devlin, Ont. Proud grandfather to Sean Steele, Charlie (Jennifer) Egleston, Sam Egleston, Lindsay (Beau) Johnson, Andrea Jewiss, Jennifer (Roger) Stolz and great-grandfather to Nathan Steele; Raven, Rhaia and Ashon Egleston; Eli Johnson, Selina Rae Stolz. Victor will also be dearly missed by his sister in-law Gladys Clark and niece Pauline (Tom) Payne and family. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Victoria Jewiss; his 3 brothers; one sister and grandson. Victor retired in 1980 from Ontario Steel Products (Meritor). He also served for many years as a Court Constable serving in the Family and Juvenile Courts. Vic was an avid outdoorsman who spent many pleasurable days fishing and hunting small and large game. He was also a Master Hunter Education instructor. As a leather craftsman, many of his hunting buddies personally carry their rifles in his hand crafted gun cases. Many family and friends have been on the receiving end of various handcrafted items. Vic was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the RCNVR from 1942-1945. He was better known for his association with the militia-first the Kent Regiment as a boy bugler and then after was part of the Bugle Band. When the Kents amalgamated with the Essex Scottish and became the Essex & Kent Scots he served with them for many years. Vic ended his army days with the 59 Legion Highlander Cadet Corps where he served his last 4 years before retirement as the C. O. He was the R. S. O. for Cadets training at Camp Ipperwash for several years. During his early retirement years Vic was a Big Brother to 3 little brothers. He is the first life member of this organization. Vic was a member of Holy Trinity Church, the Chatham Sertoma Club, Royal Canadian Legion Br 28., Royal Canadian Navy Association, Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem (London Commandery), the Southwestern Ontario Longbeards Association (Turkey Federation) and a life member of the Essex & Kent Scottish Regimental Association. Took the Plunge

Well, I've taken the plunge and begun a new venture, I'm now a Stampin' Up Demo and so far it's fun. One of the new things that Stampin' Up is going to offer this fall will be online ordering and I think that rocks! I've found that since I've gotten back into the crafty world that I do order more online as it's much easier (especially with 3 boys) to take my time and look at things online. It's also easier to find examples of cards and scrapbook pages made with different products to see just how things work or how they will look.

Right now I'm waiting on the new Fall/Winter catalogue and from the sneak peaks I've seen and read about there should be lots of cool things to check out.

Something not crafty but very important nonetheless, our eldest who is just turned 13, got his first shaving lesson last night... I will admit he now looks like his age much more now than with the 'stache and beard sprouties he had on the go. His chin was looking pretty "Shaggy" and the moustache made him appear much older (being 5'11" doesn't help either) which I think made people figure he was older and perhaps put expectations on him that weren't really fair to him. Now he looks like a kid again!

These cards include a few new ones and some I've altered to fit the parameters of a card swap I participated in. The theme was Gold and Silver and you had to use one or both colours on the cards. The 6th card I haven't included here as I'd already posted it before - the hearts coloured silver, gold and red.

The quality isn't so great, my camera has been acting up a bit and since these cards were a bit different in style I didn't want to scan them.

I added some silver swirls with a Zig Metallic marker on the outside and inside.

This was embossed with the Cuttlebug Thinking of You small folder on metallic silver textured paper from DCWV. I used my scalloped scissors at the top and bottom edges and used the Cuttlebug Tiny Tags dies. The stamped flower is in gold and silver ink which doesn't show up well with my camera. The stamp is from the The Little Paper Shop Take Time set.

Borrowed the idea from Michelle Giraud "Flaxychick" - scroll down to the My Favorite Re-turns card. I used my circle Nestabilities, punched the holes with my Crop-a-dile, the holes alternative sizes. The stamp is from Blockheads Stamps Inspired by Nature set. I coloured it with my markers. On the corners I used the ticket corner punch from Stampin' Up and used my Swiss Dots Cuttlebog embossing folder on the plum metallic textured paper from DCWV.

Getting more organized

I lucked out this weekend as Canadian Tire has some Rubbemaid cabinets on sale and I got one that is just the right size for my area and it is already assembled - thanks to my great hubby! If I'd done it on my own I think I'd still be assembling it!

It stands 60 inches tall and is 30 inches wide. It fits in perfectly where I used to have a bookcase (now given over to our growing collection of reference books) and I can fit so much into it. I'm still mucking with things but it is nice that I can see much more floor space! I'm hoping that by the end of today I'll have my floor space totally clear. Some of the interim storage solutions I can clear out and give to my boys or save for a garage sale we help out with a few months.

Once things are quite so hurricane tossed looking, I'll post some pictures.

Almost without my 'bug :(

Well today almost turned into a really bad day... I went to work on some cards since things with my job weren't going so well and I needed to just do some relaxing stuff for a bit. I had an idea I wanted to do for a card and was going to use my Cuttlebug. Well it wasn't co-operating in the least, it appeared it had lost pressure and wouldn't cut. At the same time the side opposite the handle was splitting apart!

I called Provo Craft after surfing and trying to see if anything similar had been reported and no luck there. The person I spoke with at Provo Craft was excellent and it was nice to be treated so well! I was going to try and exchange my 'bug at WalMart where I had bought it (last February) and of course I can't find the receipt. I know I have it somewhere! If I couldn't exchange it then I was to ship it back to Provo Craft and they would send me a replacement. Which would mean being without my 'bug for a bit and I didn't like that idea.

I was lucky at WalMart and got home with my new 'bug just a bit ago. I have to admit that having the information from Provo Craft - contact person and reference number were probably what made the difference for being able to exchange it without the receipt.

I got really lucky with the people I dealt with and now I'm happy again!!

A new view on things

okay not such a big deal but I did get new glasses at the end of last week, I'd been wearing contacts on and off with my old (very old) glasses as I just couldn't find frames that I loved. Yeah I need to love my glasses since I have to wear them all the time and of course making sure the glasses didn't cost a fortune was another factor. I have a very strong 'script and astigmatism to boot... I lucked out and found some great frames and a super great overall price.

I am really surprised at how clear everything now appears...I didn't realize how much I may have been missing!

oh and such a lucky one am I that my hubby made some shelves for me to re-purpose a small cabinet I had so that now I can store all my 8.5 x 11 paper in and easily see what I have... I'll try and get a photo up later of it. I've been moving and switching things yet again in my space and trying to make things easier to access and keep tidy.

Here are a couple cards I've made using the crayon resist technique. I found the key to using this technique was to have a nice sized stamp that has enough space for the white crayon area to be the focus or highlight of the image. I also have a couple others that are still in progress.

While out and about yesterday I found something pretty cool at Staples/Business Depot in their area of reduced scrapping/crafting items. It is the Fiskars Stamp Press and I thought it was pretty cool and the fact it was marked down to $9.95 and then an additional 50% off that made it a no brainer. I have the worst time lining up letters and multiple stamps if I'm trying to create a scene or add words so I know this will help. I've also learned from the Fiskars web site that you can buy additional plates for the press so you could set up a batch of scenes or wordings in advance and then stamp away.

I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to get more organizing done, that just seems to be a never ending task for me. I have with my hubby's help come up with an idea for a better way to store my 8.5 x 11 papers and hope it will be easier to see what I have and just easier to access it. We're going to re-purpose a little cabinet that I used to have in my office and add shelves to the inside. Right now my papers are in a filing cabinet and I find that with them not so visible I don't play with the colours I have enough.

Koh-i-noor Pencils!!

I know many of us have seen and perhaps even drooled a bit over the Koh-i-noor pencils as shown on Gina K's blog - Koh-i-noor pencil tutorial I saw them in Michael's here in Canada. They haven't had them long and they have sets of 12 and sets of 24. The sets of 24 are $24.95 if I remember correctly, so with a 50% coupon that's a great deal!

I'm going to stick with my Prismacolors and assorted markers for now.

Here are two cards I made up for this month's swap which had the theme of Red & White.

I only mailed one as I usually make at least two cards at a time. The stamp is from the Knobbly Gnomes set from Stampin' Up that a friend has let me borrow. I used my brand new Swiss Dots embossing folder, oval and circle Nesties and some patterned paper I have in my collection.

Father's Day Cards ...finally

Today is a long post as I've been putzing around with a bunch of things the past few days.

Here are the Father's Day Cards I made for my husband. The first was from our boys, the second from me and the last one was made for his Mum to give him.

What doesn't really show up well with the scans is that the first two cards were made with a very glossy black card stock background. The patterned paper on the first card is also very glittery but not girly.

The brackets on the second card I made with my own stencils, I want to re-do them and make them an embossing folder for my Cuttlebug as well. I've made a couple embossing folders and will have to post something with those soon.

I've also been working on my unmounting project, it is going well but I've decided that some stamps (my Stampin' Up ones and Penny Blacks) will stay mounted. I've got some in CD cases and others that are sets have gone into a zippered binder. I just used page protectors with cardboard in the middle, stapled the tops for stability and stuck the stamps on. It seems to be working out okay.

Oh and before I forget!! I should have mentioned that Scrappin Great Deals is having a 20% off sale - go check it out! Sheila is wonderful to deal with and I'm really glad I found her! She has all the Nestabilities including the new rectangle ones and getting 20% off is super!

I've also been playing with the crayon resist technique I saw on Gina K's blog - I'd seen it before but just wasn't getting it until I read how Gina did it. I've four or five samples I'm working with and hope to get done today.

I've also got a swap card to get in the mail today.

More new goodies

I got some stamps I'd ordered online yesterday and earlier in the week and I'm going to spend some time playing with them tonight and see what I can come up with. I also got three Tombow markers - I have a bunch of Marvy but couldn't find the right shades I wanted so went with the Tombow and they seem nice so far.

I've also decided that due to my limited space and small hands that I'm going to unmount the majority of my wooden block stamps so that storage is less of an issue and working with the stamps will be easier. I don't know if it's because the acrylic blocks are thinner that I find them easier to use even for large stamps or if it is just something in my head.

I'm also going to move some of the sets of stamps into a binder with sheets rather than having them spread across a bunch of CD cases.

So we'll see how much I get done tonight and how much I get to play!

Oh I just heard about a new challenge blog and it's for Penny Black stamps!!! I love those hedgies and my collection is slowly growing!! Okay I also really really like her other stamps too, I find the characters are whimsical without being over cute if that makes any sense.

Off now to think of something to come up with for this Saturday!!! Oh did I mention that that challenges will be each Saturday, okay that's when they are.

A sad day for us

Well, this isn't easy to post but we had to take our dog Walker - retired racing greyhound for a final vet visit today. Old age and his life as a racer caught up with him. We adopted him in 2000 when he was 5 years old and he's been such a part of our family and we'll miss him dearly. The boys realize that this wasn't about what was best for us but for Walker; which even as an adult I have a hard time with but I do know it is better for Walker.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Here's the last batch of the cards I've made the past few weeks, I have others still in progress and I work on them a bit each day.

Oh and yes I've got Nestabilities... ovals, rectangles and circles and they make such nice cuts and shapes. They are fun to play with and I keep experimenting with different ideas.

Pink diamond fold card

Penguins - I love penguins!! But admit there are "certain" penguins that I do not like.... think those that skate on ice ....

I used flocking on these stamps and wow does it make a nice effect even though it may not show up well in this scan.

I sent this card to my sis-in-law as a surprise just because kind of thing. The image is from the Fantasy Sourcebook. I used Stickles on this one and like how it turned out.

This one I made the alphas with my Cuttlebug. I covered chipboard (I now save all thin boxes) with patterned paper and then cut the letters with the Cuttlebug. The alpha used was Red Tag Sale.

Goodies from the weekend

I had a good weekend and acquired some really cool stamps. One of our local stamp shops - The Rubber Room was having a sale of used stamps that people could get a table and sell their stamps they no longer wanted.

I got the set from Stmapin' Up - Seaside Sketches that matches my set I got just a bit ago - Summer by the Sea which is very cool. I like those images and have some ideas in mind for them. I also got the Stipple Shells set. I picked up some other stamps as well and brought home quite a stash!

A few of the really unique ones were female characters from Shakespeare that I thought were very unique. I have found a web site where these stamps are sold and it is Stampsmith.

Deena tagged me, so I tell you some things about me and then tag three others.
So here goes:

1. Ten years ago - I'd had my own computer for about a month and had already found a job through the Internet - I'm still working via the Internet and loving it!! I wasn't into using the computer so much for fun stuff but now I am! Our two oldest boys were 2.5 and 1 yr old then... geesh it seems like not that long ago!

2. 5 Things in Today’s To Do List: tidy up my office/craft area, laundry (never ends and never goes away), tidy up my office/craft area (never goes away either), work on some cards, put clean laundry away, and of course tidy up my office/craft area...

3. Snacks I Enjoy: chocolate especially Hershey's, yogurt, chocolate milk

4. Things I would Do If I Were a Millionaire: pay off the house, rent it out and move out of the city (huge space to feed my technology and crafting needs), get my sis-in-law a house closer to us, and I'm not sure what else...

5. Places I have lived: Windsor ON, Wainwright AB, Meaford ON, London ON.

Well I've been busy working on more cards, some are ones that I've added to or changed over the past few weeks. I'd cut myself some co-ordinated colours of card stock to mark a small set of cards and envelopes. I didn't match the envelopes with the cards either, I decided it was more fun if the colours were swapped around a bit.

I also played around with using the Nestabilities in my Cuttlebug, much easier than using scalloped edged scissors and there are more ways to use them.

Here are the cards I've done up and some aren't quite finished but I'm not sure yet what I want to do with them or just leave them be for now.

This cute bunny is from the Penny Black Fresh New Day set.

Papers used here were from the Blossoms & Butterflies Stack and Brights stack, the butterflies in the cutouts are from Inkadinkado Butterflies set.

Cupcake stamp from Inkadinkado Birthday Cupcake set and the embossing folder is Textile. I used the scalloped rectangle Nestability first and then used the embossing folder.

Boy in the Sand from the Summer by the Sea set from Stampin' Up. I an acetate sheet that I'd scribbled on with my Marvy markers, spritzed and then pressed and rubbed on the water colour paper. I first saw this while surfing about through the many blogs and I've found and now I can't find the original post. I believe the original creation used one of the stamps from the You are My Sunshine set from Gina K. Designs

Happy Mother's Day to Me!!

Okay so I haven't posted in a bit and yes Mother's Day is now past but my Mother's Day gifts just arrived!!

I was given gift cards to order the books that I wanted online and here's what I ended up getting:

How lucky could I get? I also got to go out the day before and went to a sale a retiring stamp rep was having and got a really nice set - Summer by the Sea by Stampin' Up, some new ink pads, stickles and a re-inker. Oh and quite a stash of double-sided tape. I'd been using glue sticks and pens up til now and boy do I like the tape much better!

I've got some more cards to post that I've made in the last week or so.

Swap Card I Received

Here are two views of a card I just received in a swap. The card is so very beautiful and you can't get the full impact of the embossing on the butterflies with my scans. The choice of butterflies and purple are just so great as I've always loved purple and have a big fascination with butterflies - so much that I just got the butterfly embossing and cutting dies just a couple weeks ago! Thanks Karyn!

This card was fun and I just love the stamp with the duck named Mr. Waddles. We used to have a cat named Waddles and he was such a character.

How I made it:

High Hopes stamp “April & Mr. Waddles”
Coloured with Prismacolor pencils
Highlighting done with 3D Glaze pens
Bubble alpha stickers
Ribbon on top and bottom edges attached with eyelets.

Puzzle Card

This card is one I made for my husband, I'd been in Stamp Art here earlier in the day and I think seeing all the stamps and other goodies were my inspiration.

Inside of card -

How I made it:

Printed background stamp Love words from – on white card stock with purple Pretty Color pigment stamp pad. The white card stock is placed over a piece of purple striped pattern paper.

Sizzix Puzzle Maker 2 pieces cut with Cuttlebug from a patterned tissue box and then embossed with Script embossing folder.

“Without you, my life would be…” printed on light purple vellum and edges trimmed with Provo Craft scissors.

Edges Dusty Concord Distress Ink – Ranger

Remainder of puzzle pieces glued down.

“An incomplete puzzle”
Printed on light purple vellum.

The sentiment "Without YOU, my life would be an incomplete puzzle" is something I made up and just seems so right for my husband and I.

Memories Card

Here is a card I made for my very first swap. The theme was Mother's Day or adult female.

Inside of the card -

How I made it:

Ephemera from Vintage Paintworks - October Gratitude printed on pink vellum. Pink vellum then embossed with my Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls folder. It is then layered over pink card stock that I trimmed the edges with my Provo Craft scissors. The edges were stamped with Worn Lipstick Distressed Ink - Ranger.

The inside is a quote from Vintage Paintworks - Memories and printed on pink vellum. I cut the edges and layered it over pink card stock.

Something a Little New

For close to 10 years I worked online at About.com and now I work part-time outside the house and have also become a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator which is a lot of fun!

I have also begun or gotten back into scrapbooking and cardmaking which are two activities I greatly enjoy and I plan to share some of my creations with you. I have always enjoyed taking pictures and with a digital camera it is easier than ever and with all the great tools and materials available now it's more fun to create!

I look forward to this new journey of blogging and hope to share some great information and just have some fun!
